I live in Middleton, Manchester, where I have lived most of my life, apart from a small portion of which I spent living in Berlin. My background lies in computer science and spent my early working career as a computer programmer.
Desperately seeking a career change I enrolled on a Foundation Course in Art and Design. This gained me a place on a BA programme where I gained a First Class Honors in Art and Design. This was closely followed by a Post Graduate Degree in Education leading to employment as a part time lecturer in photography for Oldham Education Authority and photo technician at Bolton Institute.
I am currently employed as Pathway Leader for the Foundation Art and Design Course at The University of Bolton where I am involved in all areas of art and design. My passion lies in art of any form, but especially in photography. I feel that this is my strongest form of communication, although I do partake in painting, printmaking and sculpture whenever the time allows.
Photography
Photography has been my infatuation for many years. I have worked as a freelance social/sports photographer, but now only indulge in this as a leisure pursuit - time unfortunately does not allow for any more than this. From being a firm believer in film for many years, I have now succumbed to the digital world and rarely revert to the days of E6 and C41. My interest in photographic subject areas is diverse having had exhibitions in Fine Art Photography, Landscape and Documentary. I am now studying a Masters Degree in International Photojournalism in order to increase my knowledge and understanding of image analysis and criticism.
